Is The Job Performance of Tourism Academicians Related to their Emotional Intelligence?

Title: Is The Job Performance of Tourism Academicians Related to their Emotional Intelligence?
Authors: Tokgöz, Leyla; Işık, Zennube; Işık, Mehmet Fatih
Abstract: The aim of the research is to determine whether the job performances of tourism academics
in Türkiye are related to emotional intelligence. Further, this research is an endeavor to
investigate whether emotional intelligence and job performance differ according to
demographic variables. “Job Performance Scale” adapted by Yang and Hwang (2014) was
used to measure the job performance of academicians. In addition to that “Rotterdam
Emotional Intelligence Scale” developed by Pekaar, Bakker, Linden, and Born (2017) and
adapted to Turkish by Tanrıöğen and Türker (2019) was used to measure their emotional
intelligence. The research sample consists of academicians working in Tourism Faculties,
Vocational Schools and Tourism Colleges in Türkiye. As a result of the analyzes made in
line with reaching the goal, it is determined that the job performances of tourism
academicians have a positive and moderately significant relationship with their emotional
intelligence. Both job performance and emotional intelligence did not differ by gender. A
difference was found between job performance with both academic title and working time
factors. It is also found that emotional intelligence differs partially according to the marital
status of the academicians. Other results are presented in the findings section.

′Symbols′ as Expression Tools of Islam and Their Usage Methods in Palace Architecture

Title: ′Symbols′ as Expression Tools of Islam and Their Usage Methods in Palace Architecture
Authors: Bingöl, Bora; Abbasov, Namiq; Abbasova, Shahla
Abstract: Islamic architecture consists of religion, politics, philosophy, and aesthetics. The religious
expression of symbols in Islamic architecture is also extremely important in architecture.
These religious symbols, which are used in palace buildings and generally in administrative
places in the Islamic world, are shaped depending on the function of the buildings. In this
period, the palace complexes were considered to be the most important structures
representing state politics and economy. In this study, the purposes and methods of use of
religious symbols used in many palace complexes of Islamic architecture were investigated.
While investigating the main source and usage rules of these symbols in palace
architecture, the Quran, which is the foundation of Islam, was examined and the
dependence of these symbols on numbers was tried to be revealed with examples.

Local Governments in Türkiye and Azerbaijan in the Context of the European Charter of Local SelfGovernment: Contradictions and Incompatibilities

Title: Local Governments in Türkiye and Azerbaijan in the Context of the European Charter of Local SelfGovernment: Contradictions and Incompatibilities
Authors: Çolak, Çağrı; Yıkıcı, Abdulgazi
Abstract: The Council of Europe (CoE) has attached great importance to local governments and local
self-government in constructing an integrated Europe and, as a sign of this, has created an
international convention entitled “the European Charter of Local Self-Government
(ECLSG)”. The core aim of this investigation is to evaluate the local government
legislation of Türkiye and Azerbaijan, which are contracting parties, within the framework
of the principles and standards of the ECLSG. The assessment found that some of the
articles/sub-articles on which both countries had made reservations have disappeared in
practice, while some approved articles/sub-articles have yet not been incorporated into
domestic legislation. Ultimately, Türkiye accepted twenty sub-articles (the minimum
number required to accept the Charter) and made reservations for ten sub-articles.
However, Türkiye is not applying the three articles it accepted and is actually applying nine
of the ten articles for which it made reservations. On the other hand, Azerbaijan accepted
twenty-six sub-articles and made reservations to four sub-articles. Like Türkiye, Azerbaijan
does not apply the four articles it accepted, but actually applies three of the four articles to
which it made reservations

The Effect of STEM Education on the Hypothetical-Creative Reasoning Skills of the Pre-school Pre-service Teachers

Title: The Effect of STEM Education on the Hypothetical-Creative Reasoning Skills of the Pre-school Pre-service Teachers
Authors: Çakır, Zehra; Yalçın, Sema Altun
Abstract: The study aims to explore the effect of STEM education on the hypothetical-creative
reasoning skills of the pre-school pre-service teachers. The pre-school pre-service
teachers were educated with STEM education for 14 weeks within the scope of the
study. A mixed-method was employed in the study. The quantitative data were
collected with the "Hypothetical-creative Reasoning Skills Inventory” in the study. The
hypothetical-creative reasoning Inventory was applied to the pre-school pre-service
teachers as a pre-test before the STEM education and a post-test after the STEM
education. The qualitative data were obtained with a semi-structured interview form
applied to the pre-school pre-service teachers. At the end of the study, it was found that
STEM education developed the pre-school pre-service teachers' hypothetical-creative
reasoning skills. The qualitative data also supported this result. The pre-school preservice teachers claimed that they used the steps of determining the situation, collecting
necessary data, suggesting solutions, doing research, analysing data, evaluating, that is,
scientific problem solving during STEM education.
