An Empirical Analysis of the Contribution of Mining Sector to Economic Development in Nigeria

Title: An Empirical Analysis of the Contribution of Mining Sector to Economic Development in Nigeria
Authors: Oladipo Olalekan, David; Oluwashina Afees, Noah; Sunday Ayodele, Agbalajobi
Abstract: Nigeria is richly endowed with vast natural resources that are widely distributed
across the country among these are;solid minerals, petroleum and natural gas.
About fifty solid minerals have been discovered in five hundred locations in the
country (Alison-Madueke, 2009).As a result of this, mining is done virtually in all
the states of the federation.Mining industries have been viewed as key drivers of
economic growth and the development process, as lead sectors that drive economic
expansion which can lead to higher levels of social and economic well being
(Bridge, 2008).Coal and tin ranked high as Nigeria‟s foreign exchange earners
during the colonial period and after the country‟s independence in 1960, other
minerals such as limestone, gold, marble, clay etc were mined to a lesser degree
mainly for local consumption (Adekeye, 1999).

The Effect of Portfolio Assessment on General English Learners’ Locus of Control and Achievement

Title: The Effect of Portfolio Assessment on General English Learners’ Locus of Control and Achievement
Authors: Shirvan, Majid Elahi; Golparvar, Seyyed Ehsan
Abstract: An integral part of any teaching program is assessment. Assessment refers to
gathering information and making judgments about a language learner’s
knowledge of a language and the ability to use it (Chapelle and Brindley, 2002).
Contemporarily, in line with a shift from traditional, teacher-centered instruction to
more student-centered pedagogy, there is also an attempt to practics alternatives to
traditional, standardized assessment. The goal is to tap into the process of learning
as well as its product and integrate teaching and testing activities (Yurdabakan and
Erdughan, 2009).

Proverb as a moderating Potency in Yoruba Dressing

Title: Proverb as a moderating Potency in Yoruba Dressing
Authors: Iyanda, Rabiu
Abstract: It is commonly assumed, not without reason that literature is the total patterning of
a culture. Culture, literature and language are interwoven and cannot be totally
separated. They depend on one another. Literature depends on language which is
intrinsic to the culture. To be a competent user of a language entails knowledge of
the socio-cultural habits of the owners of that language. Adeyeye (2002, 2) opines
that, it’s a well-known fact that the language of a community is a repository and
transmitter of the culture, values, social habits and world- vision of that society.

Assessments Regarding Development Issues in the Azerbaijani Steel Industry in the Last 20 years of the 20th Century

Title: Assessments Regarding Development Issues in the Azerbaijani Steel Industry in the Last 20 years of the 20th Century
Authors: Samandarov, Seyfaddin
Abstract: Nowadays, when national economies integrate into the global economy more
closely, there are still some resources that have not found their usage in production
and consumption at the local level. However, nobody can deny the importance of
the evaluation of such opportunities in the global market. Seen this way,
Azerbaijan is a rich country, mainly known for its rich oil resources. Unfortunately,
these opportunities have not been evaluated and used properly (though research on
the existence and usage opportunities of these resources were conducted in the last
century). If we observe historical processes of the last 20-30 years of the 20th
century, we can see that after being isolated from the international community and
suffering severe shortages of resources, the Soviet administration paid special
attention to research on rational usage of resources in its outlying regions.
