Abstract: In this article, by the anatomical methods examined wood samples, found
in archaeological excavations of the medieval city of Shamkir. It was defined that
samples of wood, in anti-seismic masonry walls of the monumental building
belonging IX-X centuries are oak species. Wood samples found in the cultural
layer of the beginning of the XIII century belong to the species of juniper. Currently,
the natural vegetation of the study area is strongly degraded. Mountain
forests are mainly found on the slopes of Shamkirchay Basin. Here distributed
beech, oak, hornbeam, ash, birch, poplar trees too. On the steep slopes of the left
bank Shamkirchay, on the rocky slopes rarely distributed juniper. Other researchers
also usually found subfossil samples belonging representatives of the juniper
and oak species.

Abstract: Uzarliktepe settlement was discovered by the expedition team in October
2014, at 335 km of the SCPX pipeline route, during the archaeological research
and exploration activities around the river Zayam. The site is located in the area of
Bayramli village in Shamkir region, to the south from the village, about 1 km away
from Zayam river, among the hills not too high. The site is about 3 hectares.
The settlement is located at an altitude of 321 meters above the sea level.
The centre of the hill where the site located is a great plain, and in some places
there are elevations in the form of a high hill (about 1.5-2 m high). Presumably,
these are places of constructions. The north-eastern foot of the hill was washed out
as a result of rainwaters and artifacts were revealed. During the search and observations
a large number of ceramic samples, spindle tips, metal samples and stone
tools were found. Black glossy gray, light red and brown jug, pot, jug-shaped pottery
fragments were obtained. Archaeological observations and found artifacts
found allowed to utter initial scientific ideas about the period, structure and the area
of the monument. As a result of the analysis of the ceramics and other artifacts the
site was proven to be a place of residence having rich cultural layer belonging to
the II-I millennium B.C.

Title: Naxçıvanın neolit dövrü keramikasının funksional və texnoloji xüsusiyyətləri
Authors: Quliyeva, Zeynəb
Abstract: In article, functional and technological features of Neolithic ceramics of
Nakhchivan have been analyzed. Purpose of the study is to trace the way of life of
local tribes, the developing process of the craft and skill to find out the local features
of Neolithic culture of Nakhchivan.
İt is identified that the most part of ceramics is made with chaff tempered
clay and are burned in different shades of red color. On a cutof pottery sometimes
are traced the unfired black and gray layers. Ceramic wares are similar to the materials
found from the settlements of the South Caucasus, including Azerbaijan. The
known close parallels are from Shomutepe, MollaNagitepesi, Geytepe, Haji Firuz
and other sites. This feature also can be seen in the ornamentation of the Neolithic
ceramics of Nakhchivan. Ornaments have been presented, with banded reliefs, round
molds, circle holes, elongated hollows and the imbedded patterns. Some of them
coincide with ornaments of synchronous monuments of East Anatolia, Mesopotamia
and South Caucasus, but branded relief and the elongated hollows reflect local nature
of Neolithic culture of Nakhchivan.
